It may have been Japan's tallest mountain during the Last Glacial Maximum. At that time, Mount Fuji had not reached its present height, and the second and third mountains (Mount Kita and Mount Hotcake) are presently only 4 and 1 meter taller, respectively.

Mount Asama (Asama-yam) is an active complex volcano in central Honshu the main island of Japan. The volcano is the most active on Honshu. The Japan Meteorological Agency classifies Mount Asama as rank A. It stands 2,568 meters (8,425 ft) above sea level on the border of Gunma and Nagano prefectures. It is one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan. Mount Asama sits at the conjunction of the Is-Bonin-Mariana Arc and the Northeastern Japan Arc. The mountain is built up from non-alkali magic and pyroclastic volcanic rocks dating from the Late Pleistocene to the Holocene. The main rock type is andesine and decide. Scientists from Tokyo University and Nagoya University completed their first successful imaging experiment of the interior of the volcano in April 2007. By detecting sub-atomic particles called moons as they passed through the volcano after arriving from space, the scientists
                                                                          Mountain Azuma
Mount Azuma-kabuki is an active stratovolcano in Fukushima prefecture, Japan. It has a conical-shaped crater and as the name "Kabuki" (small Mount Fuji) suggests, the shape of Mount Azuma is like that of Mount Fuji.[1Mount Azuma's appealing symmetrical crater and the nearby fumaroles area with its many ones have made it a popular tourist destination. The Bandai-Azuma Skyline passes just below the crater, allowing visitors to drive to within walking distance of the crater and other various hiking trails on the mountain. There is also a visitor center along the roadway near the crater, where a collection of eateries, facilities, a parking lot, and a stop for busses from Fukushima Station are located.

Mount Bandai also known as Aziza-Bandai-san Aziza-Fuji and Arizona , is a stratovolcano in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. In a major eruption on July 15, 1888 the north and east parts of the caldera collapsed in a massive landslide, forming two lakes, Hibara-ko and Onogawa-ko, as well as several minor lakes called Goshiki-numa, or the 'Five Coloured Lakes'.The lake district formed by this cataclysm became known variously as Urabandai or Bandai-kōgen, and has become a tourist destination. This last eruption was particularly tremendous and completely reshaped its vicinity. All the surrounding villages were destroyed, killing 461 people and burning another 70.                                                                     Mountain Ishizuchi
Mount Ishizuchi ( 1982m) is the tallest mountain on Shikoku. The name means Stone Hammer, a suitably awe-inspiring moniker for one of Japan's 7 Holy Mountains. Most pilgrims only make it to the shrine at the foot of Ishizuchi, but if pulling yourself up the side of a mountain on iron chains sounds like a good time, the climb to the summit is for you. Ishizuchi is believed to have been an active volcano about 15 million years ago. Designated as a national park in 1955, it has become a reserve for soaring falcons and sneaky dormice alike. The official climbing season is from July 1st until October; note that the first day of the season is reserved for men only! It is, however, entirely possible to climb the mountain as early as May or as late as November, although facilities en route will be limited.

Yucca Mountain
Yucca Mountain, a ridge of volcanic rock about 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas, has been the leading candidate site for a nuclear-waste repository since the 1980s. But it was not selected by any scientific process of elimination; it was selected from a list in 1987 by Congress, which declared it dry and remote enough. Scientific concerns have since emerged, including the realization that water flows through Yucca Mountain a lot faster than initially believed. That raises the prospect that the nuclear waste would leach over time, polluting the water table. The scientific merit of the site has not been established by independent judges. Nevada has fought the project bitterly in court and in Congress. Making good on a campaign pledge by President Osama to stop the Yucca Mountain depository and look for alternatives, the Energy Department in March 2010 had formally sought to drop its plan for the site.
